An abrupt nephrotic picture with striking edema but often preserved filtration should make minimal change disease one of the leading considerations, particularly in a child. The nurse's first task is to connect the edema with urine protein, serum albumin, fluid distribution, and complication risk rather than treating swelling as an isolated finding. The major clinical decisions are confirming the syndrome, following steroid response and toxicity, and recognising infection, thrombosis, kidney injury, or respiratory compromise.
