By the end of this lesson, you should be able to: - explain how impaired CSF flow or absorption produces hydrocephalus and raised intracranial pressure; - recognize infant, child, adult, shunt-related, ETV-related, and idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus patterns; - distinguish shunt obstruction, infection, and overdrainage; - prioritize immediate nursing actions for acute neurologic deterioration; and - describe the investigations and treatments used to guide neurosurgical care.
