Autonomic Dysreflexia

Autonomic Dysreflexia matter in NCLEX-PN preparation because they sit at the boundary between routine care and avoidable harm. Autonomic dysreflexia is a hypertensive neurologic emergency in susceptible spinal cord injury patients, so learners must sit the patient up, remove triggers, monitor blood pressure, and escalate without delay. For United States LPN/LVN licensure, the learner must not memorize a list in isolation. The safer pattern is to ask what patient problem is being treated, what physiologic change is expected, what finding would make the treatment unsafe, and which action fits focused assessment, safe medication administration, patient teaching, and reporting abnormal trends.
